A Princeton family watched mold spread through nearly every room of their home. So they called us. Our team at Intensa Dry Mold & Water Restoration took on a full whole-house mold remediation, and we’re glad we did. We’re a family-owned, IICRC-certified crew serving Princeton and the wider Dallas-Fort Worth MetroPlex, and fast water damage restoration in Plano is still the best way to stop mold early.
Because mold rarely shows up alone. It follows water.
How Bad Was the Mold in This Princeton Home?
The mold had spread far past one room. We found it around baseboards, in the entryway, on walls, and behind materials in the kitchen, living room, and bedrooms. This was not a spot fix. It was a whole-house job.
Mold moves fast. Give it water and something to feed on, and it can take hold in 24 to 48 hours. The EPA’s guide to mold and moisture says it plainly. Control the water, and you control the mold.
Most people spot it late. By then it’s usually been growing out of sight for a while.
The Warning Signs We Look For
- A musty, damp smell that sticks around even when things look clean
- Dark stains or fuzzy patches around baseboards and corners
- Warped, soft, or stained drywall near the floor
- A recent leak, a flood, or high indoor humidity
Here’s what the damage looked like when we walked in.

What Goes Into a Whole-House Mold Remediation?
A good remediation follows an order. Contain first. Remove next. Then prove the home is dry. Skip the containment and you just push spores into clean rooms.
Our owner, Elnard, holds a Texas mold remediation license, so we run every job by the state’s rules. Here’s how it went at this home:
- Seal off the work areas so spores can’t drift
- Run HEPA air scrubbers to pull particles from the air
- Remove drywall and flooring that can’t be saved
- HEPA vacuum and wipe down everything we keep, even the blinds
- Take moisture readings to be sure the structure is dry
Containment is the part no one posts online. It’s also the part that keeps mold from coming back.

The Detail Work Most Crews Skip
This is where the job stood out. We scraped old carpet glue off the concrete slab. We pulled up leftover vinyl. Then we cut the drywall two feet up, all the way around the house.
That two-foot cut is a restoration standard. Mold and water wick up from the floor, so we take out the bottom band and save the rest of the wall.
We worked slow and careful through the kitchen too. We checked moisture behind the fixtures and kept every piece worth saving. Finding the water source matters just as much, which is why our leak detection step runs with every job. Once the demo was done, the home was ready for our reconstruction services to put it back together.

What the Homeowner Had to Say
The best part of any job is when a family feels at home again. This one left us a review that made our week. They called the whole process stress-free and thanked the crew for explaining each step. We won’t speak for them, so here’s their note just as they wrote it.

Frequently Asked Questions About Mold Remediation
How fast does mold grow after water damage?
Mold can start growing in 24 to 48 hours. Spores already float in most homes. They just need water and something like drywall or wood to grow on. That’s why quick drying after a leak or flood is so important.
Do you really have to remove drywall to get rid of mold?
Often, yes. Mold grows into soft, porous materials, so wiping the surface won’t reach it. When the lower wall is affected, we cut a clean line a couple of feet up and save the rest. Our home reconstruction after water damage case study shows how the rebuild comes together.
Is household mold really bad for my health?
It can be. The CDC’s guidance on mold and health links it to stuffy noses, coughing, and itchy eyes. It’s worse for people with asthma or a weak immune system. Removing it the right way protects your home and your family.
How do I keep mold from coming back?
Fix the water and mold has nothing to feed on. Repair leaks fast, keep your indoor humidity in check, and dry wet materials within a day or two. We cover more in our guide to mold prevention after water damage in Plano.
